A letter from Colleen Macomber
Celebrando el Ritmo, Program Director

Los Rios del Mundo made its debut in San Pancho at the Plaza del Sol on March 26! After 12 weeks of preparing, our first big show in Mexico was a success. We brought together 150 dancers from Costa Verde International School and San Pancho to dance to a terrific live band led by Musical Director Roberto Godinez.

Our fabulous team of volunteers, teachers, and friends made the night incredible. Our first post-show fundraiser for Mexico was a hit. We had 3 food vendors selling tacos and tamales; and thanks to a generous donation, had delicious margaritas and wine for sale. Although the sun proved to be quite intense for rehearsals, the dancers pressed on. Teachers and parents did an amazing job of keeping the children hydrated. A highlight was watching twelve teacher and parents perform: when they saw Principal Andy jump out of the solo circle with a rainbow wig, the crowd went wild. We had over 350 people in attendance and everyone stayed to celebrate with us after the show.

Many thanks to artistic director, Tracy Straus, for being here to support me. I am grateful for our wonderful staff who came together to create a positive experience for the dancers and the audience. This program is much needed in these communities of Mexico, and the feedback we are receiving is inspiring.  The work we do is astounding and the gift we give the children is extraordinary. Many thanks to all who believe in Celebrate the Beat!

With gratitude,

Colleen Macomber
