Winter 2009
Celebrate the Beat is reaching more children than ever. The thriving partnership of CTB and the Vail Valley Foundation has allowed CTB’s Teaching Artist Heather Kratz Malcuit, and Musical Director Tim Riber to share music and dance with students in schools which are opening their doors to CTB for the first time. Ultimately reaching over 700 children in the Vail Valley, our teachers are inspiring students in Avon, Vail Mountain School, Eagle County Charter Academy, and Red Sandstone Elementary. While completing programs at Edwards and Meadow Mountain last month, the local daily Vail paper ran a superb article touting the CTB impact on the local children. Punta de Mita, Mexico
February 16-21
Just north of Puerta Vallarta lies the sleepy little town of Punta Mita. Thanks to the generosity of Argie and Oscar Tang, CTB brought its intensive one week program to the local primary school, and the local estudientes danced their hearts out. Perservering through the language and cultural barrier the teachers worked their magic as the students danced to the theme of artist Keith Haring, imitating the figures in his artwork.
The international effort was made possible with the help of PEACE, a local organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the local environment and culture. The partnership formed with CTB for this program promoted not only a joyful experience in the arts for the local youth, but created the foundation for a positive cultural exchange between CTB and the local community. Aspen
Aspen Community School
December 1-17, 2008
For the 8th year in a row, CTB and the Aspen Community School are partnering up for an adventure in music and dance. This year, they explore the world of Mexico. Master Teacher Jennifer Box, Musical Director Tim Ribner, and Teaching Artist Heather Kratz will engage the entire student body and teachers for three weeks - teaching dance steps and choreography, while immersing them in the music and history of Mexico. Two performances on December 17 at 4:30 and 6:30 will be the result of joyfully rigorous, high-energy dance classes at ASC.
Crested Butte
Crested Butte Community School
November 3-21, 2008
We are thrilled to bring CTB to the Crested Butte Community School for the second year, and to the Gunnison Valley for the fifth. During the fall of 2008 400 K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at the Crested Butte Community School will have the opportunity to participate in the three-week program. 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will have daily dance classes taught by Artistic Director Tracy Straus, Musical Director Tim Ribner, and Teaching Artist Heather Kratz. Together, the dancers and their teachers will explore the process by which movement put to music becomes dance, while focusing on the music, history, and art of the Harlem Renaissance. CTB will reach even more students in Crested Butte this year by providing weekly classes for students in grades K, 1, & 2. The program culminates in a performance on Thursday, November 20th at 6:00pm in the CBCS gymnasium.
